BAM Ireland recently hosted a high-level delegation, including the Taoiseach and a Minister, at the Narrow Water Bridge construction site, underscoring significant progress on this pivotal infrastructure project. The visit provided a timely opportunity for senior stakeholders to review the project's advancement since its June 2024 construction launch, encompassing detailed briefings on current engineering phases and a site inspection of the southern embankment. This 195-metre cable-stayed structure, a cornerstone initiative funded by the Government’s Shared Island Fund, is designed to forge a crucial new connection between County Louth and County Down. From an executive construction perspective, the Narrow Water Bridge presents a multi-faceted engineering challenge, incorporating provisions for vehicular, cycling, and pedestrian traffic, alongside a movable bascule span essential for maintaining maritime access to the Newry Canal. BAM’s strategy, characterised by 'thinking beyond the build,' demonstrates a comprehensive approach to infrastructure delivery. This project is positioned not merely as a structural achievement but as a catalyst for regional economic development, aiming to unlock substantial tourism and connectivity potential across the east border region. It is projected to drive long-term growth through increased visitor numbers and significant employment generation, illustrating the broader economic impact and strategic value of major civil engineering investments.
