Demand for British international schools on the rise

Demand for British international schools is surging, according to a COBIS survey, with 56% of schools reporting increased student numbers compared to 2024. A striking 78% express optimism about future enrolment growth, and 53% cite heightened regional demand. This growth is fuelled by the strong reputation of UK education, particularly among Chinese families, who represent the most significant nationality increase in student bodies. However, challenges loom for UK-based institutions. The imposition of VAT on private school fees has prompted some families to seek alternatives abroad; 18% of surveyed schools have received enquiries from families leaving the UK due to the policy. Beyond financial pressures, geopolitical instability is impacting schools, with 55% acknowledging significant or moderate effects on their communities and 37% noting increased student anxiety. Cost concerns also drive international students away from UK higher education, favouring more affordable options elsewhere.
