A Strata report reveals the construction and engineering sector is accelerating digital adoption, driven by demands for efficiency amid housing delivery targets and sustainability goals. Nearly 90% of professionals have increased their use of digital technologies. However, the industry faces hurdles: siloed workflows, labour shortages, and skills gaps are impeding progress. While 71% believe AI is critical, over 80% have limited understanding, and most lack formal AI training. Sustainability faces similar challenges; 85% see it as increasingly important, but only 5% are making significant progress using digital tools. Enda Grimes of Strata emphasises that digitalisation and AI are now essential for meeting national ambitions, requiring collaboration between digital experts and those with practical engineering experience to bridge the skills gap and build resilient infrastructure.
