KGD deliver significant milestone at HMNB Clyde
Kier GRAHAM Defence (KGD) has achieved a significant project milestone at HM Naval Base Clyde, erecting the first prefabricated concrete panels for a new £166m Single Living Accommodation (SLA) development. This partnership with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is a core component of the Clyde Infrastructure Programme, bolstering the base’s readiness for the Dreadnought Class submarine fleet and underpinning the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent.
The rapid advancement, just twelve months post-funding approval, highlights the effective deployment of modern methods of construction (MMC). KGD's utilisation of off-site manufactured concrete panels, weighing up to eighteen tonnes, demonstrably accelerates on-site installation, significantly reducing labour requirements and material wastage while maintaining stringent quality and sustainability benchmarks. Richard Dairion, Commercial Director at GRAHAM Building, underscored the efficiency gains from this approach. This project serves as a compelling case study for construction industry decision-makers seeking to de-risk complex public sector infrastructure programmes through collaborative delivery models and advanced manufacturing. The integrated approach, lauded by DIO, illustrates how multi-agency partnerships can deliver transformational infrastructure with pace and precision. Initial trainee blocks are scheduled for completion by late 2026, with full SLA provision online by early 2027, showcasing efficient programme management and execution in a high-security environment.
