GEDA Construction, collaborating with Monaghan County Council, recently facilitated a strategic real-world immersion for students from Monaghan Institute at the Slí Lorcáin social housing development. This initiative, engaging Architecture Technology & Design and Renewable Construction Technology students, offered a comprehensive insight into critical project lifecycle management and operational intricacies. Students received structured briefings from GEDA’s site team, key subcontractors including IJM and CS Pringle Architects, alongside administration insights from Craft Studio. This integrated approach transcends purely theoretical frameworks, offering tangible exposure to live construction methodologies and inherent operational complexities. Michael McGrath of Monaghan Institute emphasised the irreplaceable value of this practical engagement for shaping students’ future career trajectories, moving beyond traditional academic paradigms. Monaghan County Council’s Lorcán MacCinna and Robert Burns highlighted the strategic imperative of such collaborations for fostering regional sustainable growth and cultivating essential local talent, paramount for securing a resilient future workforce. GEDA's enduring commitment is underscored by its near three-decade operational footprint in Monaghan, having delivered almost 400 homes and planning a further 120. This robust industry-education nexus exemplifies a proactive, multi-stakeholder strategy addressing the prevailing skills deficit and cultivating a robust pipeline of qualified personnel, indispensable for sustained sector productivity and strategic community advancement.
