Procurement Directives – open public consultation

The European Commission has launched a crucial open public consultation to evaluate the effectiveness of its 2014 public procurement Directives, notably 2014/23/EU on concession contracts, 2014/24/EU on general public procurement, and 2014/25/EU for utilities. This rigorous assessment seeks to determine if the decade-old regulatory framework remains fit-for-purpose in the contemporary economic and operational landscape. For senior executives within the construction industry, active participation in this consultation is paramount. The period for submitting detailed feedback runs from 13 December 2024 until 7 March 2025. Strategic input from the construction sector is explicitly encouraged to ensure its unique challenges and opportunities are fully reflected in the review, shaping future policy implications directly relevant to tender processes and contractual agreements. The Office of Government Procurement (OGP) is formally engaged in this evaluation through Commission expert groups and will conduct its own cross-Government and industry consultations early in 2025. To enhance national influence, companies providing direct feedback to the Commission are requested to forward copies to revision@ogp.gov.ie. This collective approach will consolidate Member State perspectives, ensuring a robust, industry-informed contribution to the eventual legislative adjustments and a regulatory environment better equipped to tackle evolving procurement demands.
