The Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS), in collaboration with the Built Environment Academy (BEA) and Learn Live UK, is spearheading the Built Environment Work Experience Week, commencing 1 July 2024. This nationwide initiative targets students from Year 10 upwards, including university cohorts, offering a critical opportunity to engage with the construction sector. The programme, designed to provide tangible insight into industry operations, features on-site, in-office, and virtual placements. Participants will undertake team-based tasks, such as planning and costing a new road project, supported by expert mentorship, industry talks, and recruitment guidance. This direct exposure aims to demystify sector complexities. This strategic endeavour addresses the pressing need to cultivate a robust future talent pipeline and enhance sector appeal among young professionals, a vital concern for long-term industry sustainability. By facilitating direct exposure to live construction environments, diverse professional roles, and essential safety protocols, the scheme seeks to equip participants with foundational skills and a realistic understanding of the built environment. Senior decision-makers within construction firms should recognise this as a significant opportunity to proactively engage with prospective talent, contribute meaningfully to workforce development, and strategically influence the next generation's perception of the industry. Early engagement for securing host placements is crucial to maximise impact and secure local pairing opportunities. Read More
