Celebrating ‘significant’ progress and one year on site at Helensburgh Waterfront Development
Heron Bros. and Argyll and Bute Council have marked significant progress on the £22 million Helensburgh Waterfront Development, commemorating one year on site. Despite inherent construction industry challenges exacerbated by the pandemic, the landmark leisure facility, which commenced in August 2020, remains on track for a 2022 opening. The project demonstrates robust operational resilience, with the main building now structurally complete, external Lomond stone blockwork and glazing installed, and new flood defences advancing. This efficiency, acknowledged by Heron Bros. Regional Director Cathal Heron and Councillor Gary Mulvaney, policy lead for major projects, highlights the power of effective partnership and professional execution, even with back-office teams working remotely. Beyond physical infrastructure, the development is strategically contributing to regional economic health. It actively fosters local employment through apprenticeships in civil engineering, joinery, and electrical work, alongside trainee quantity surveyor and graduate roles. This commitment to vital skills training, local supply chain support, and community initiatives establishes a compelling model for public-private collaborations aiming for a lasting socio-economic legacy. The project's impressive trajectory offers valuable insights for senior decision-makers navigating complex construction environments. Read More
