Combilifts stand up to the test At BSS
BSS Industrial's National Distribution Centre, a crucial logistics hub for Travis Perkins' plumbing and heating division, has demonstrably improved operational throughput and space utilisation through the strategic implementation of Combilift's C4000 EST stand-on forklift fleet. These electric-powered units, operating 24/5, are central to the efficient handling and storage of over 600 product lines, facilitating the daily movement of 56 tonnes of tube and pipe to 62 UK branches.
The adoption of Combilift's narrow-aisle technology (1.8m) and 9.5-metre lift capability across 13 storage levels has significantly enhanced storage density, accommodating 2,353 picking locations and optimising available warehouse real estate. Following a successful 2012 trial, the ongoing investment, which includes a further 13 C2500 EST models across local branches, underscores a commitment to scalable efficiency. Driver-centric features like ergonomic cabs, collapsible seating, in-cab camera monitors, and advanced Hoppecke battery systems not only bolster safety and comfort for 16 trained operators but also ensure continuous, high-performance operation, thereby reinforcing BSS Industrial's supply chain resilience and cost-effectiveness in a demanding sector.
