GRAHAM launches ConstructHER in Edinburgh to address gender imbalance in construction
GRAHAM, a leading construction firm, is strategically expanding its ConstructHER female apprenticeship initiative to Edinburgh, following successful implementation in Glasgow. This decisive move directly confronts the construction sector's entrenched gender imbalance and pressing talent pipeline deficiencies, a significant concern for senior industry leaders grappling with workforce sustainability. Developed in collaboration with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), the programme targets S5 and S6 female pupils, offering an immersive, practical insight into the diverse professional roles integral to major construction projects—spanning quantity surveying, engineering, and site management.
The initiative is meticulously designed to cultivate critical communication, teamwork, and problem-solving competencies, providing a tangible entry point into an industry widely acknowledged for its challenges in attracting and retaining talent. By embedding participants within operational teams, ConstructHER equips them with invaluable experiential learning, bolstering their prospects for future apprenticeship and professional applications, as demonstrated by previous graduates securing roles within GRAHAM. Scheduled from October 2025 to April 2026, this programme signifies a proactive, strategic investment in human capital development, essential for fostering innovation and resilience across the built environment.
